May 21-28 marks the eighth anniversary of Pope Francis’ landmark encyclical, Laudato Si’: On Care for Our Common Home. In Vicariate I, Bishop Jeffrey Grob will preside at a Mass on Sunday, May 21 at 12:30 PM at Most Blessed Trinity Parish/Immaculate Conception Church, 508 Grand Avenue in Waukegan. A presentation, “God’s Gift of Creation,” will take place on May 23, 7:00 PM at St. John of the Cross in Western Springs.

This is a discernment opportunity for single Catholic women ages 18-40 interested in exploring religious life that will be held in-person on Friday, May 19 beginning at 5 PM through Saturday, May 20 at 7 PM. . Participants have the chance to visit four convents and spend time with sisters from several communities, hear their stories and ask questions. Our 8th graders traveled to Camp Duncan for their retreat in preparation for their Confirmation this weekend. Our Junior High put on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering And Math) Day for the school. Students presented their hypotheses, research, procedures, conclusions, and lessons learned. Thank you Mrs. Cieslak for organizing this informative day! Our preschool through first grade students had a field trip to Brookfield Zoo. We have been named a 2023 School of Excellence by the Chicago History Museum. We had 11 students present at the regional level and 2 advanced to the state competition for National History Day in Springfield, IL. We celebrated our teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week! An extra big thank you goes out to our FSA for a delicious lunch and to our students and their families for the many ways they have showered our teachers and staff with notes, decorations, and gifts throughout the week.

Our ministry raises awareness of domestic violence by providing literature, education, and referrals to the proper agencies. Let your legislators know you value this program, and what it means to the St. Hubert Catholic School community, and ask them to #RemoveTheSunset! Despite its immense success, the Tax Credit Scholarship Program is a pilot program and has a sunset clause, which would end the program in 2023, unless our state lawmakers vote to extend or make the program permanent. The Scouts of Troops 399B and 399G want to thank the St. Hubert community for their support of our clothing drive. Thanks to your generosity, we collected 2400 pounds of clothing and 175 pounds of books. We received almost $600.00 in profits! Thank you for your continued support of our efforts.

For centuries, the Catholic Church has set aside the entire month of May to honor Mary, the Mother of God. Every Friday morning at 8:00 AM, we gather in church to pray the rosary before the 8:30 AM Mass. It would be wonderful if you could join us in this beautiful prayer. If you are unable to join us, perhaps you could find time to pray the rosary at home. You can pray the rosary along with a recording featuring St. Hubert Parishioners, which can be found on the St. Hubert website under Devotional Prayers.

Come join the Knights of Columbus Council 6964 every 2nd Thursday of the month at 6:15 PM as they pray the Rosary. The knights welcome all to join them at St. Hubert Church. Spend some prayer-filled moments at church. Bring your Rosary and join this community in prayer.

Last Saturday was the big day! We congratulate our Second Graders on receiving their first Eucharist. Our students went on a service field trip to Feed My Starving Children. It's always wonderful to see our students giving back! We congratulate our Boys Volleyball team on their 4th place conference finish! And, our Junior High students traveled to Springfield to visit the Illinois State Capitol, Abraham Lincoln's house and tomb, as well as the Lincoln Museum. Thank you to our teachers, staff, and chaperones that made this trip possible.
