Community Life

Answering the Question "Who is my Neighbor?"

What We're About

The Community Life Ministry is very active throughout the year. Coordinating drives, events and collections often. Funds are received via the monthly Community Life collections, Mass offerings and online donations specifically to Community Life.  A variety of projects, drives and giving events take place throughout the year to help the community such as Food & Gift Card drives and the Winter Coat Drive. Donations are used for the needs of both parishioners and area neighbors.  Members of the Community Life Ministry coordinate the various projects and enlist the help of volunteers to accomplish them.

Our ministry is to extend the care and concern of the parish community to people in need by:

• Providing food from the monthly food collection to the area food pantries at:
  •  St. Gregory of Nyssa Parish
  • Schaumburg Township Food Pantry
  • Our Lady of Unity (Thanksgiving)
  • St. Simon (Thanksgiving)
  • Our Lady of the Angels (Thanksgiving)
• Assisting parents in need by providing gifts for their children through Christmas season with the Annual Christmas Gift Tag Giving Event. Volunteers and organizations assist with getting the names and suggestions for gifts, sorting, wrapping and overseeing the distribution of gifts. We support 9 local organizations.
• Coordinating the making and distributing of Thanksgiving “Baskets” for needy families in the parish and neighborhood.

In addition, the Community Life Outreach Deacon oversees the distribution of financial aid to parishioners and neighbors in need to assist them with paying reasonable rent.
