Dear Friends, For the past 21 years I have had the pleasure and honor to serve you—the faith community here at St. Hubert as a Permanent Deacon. One chapter of my life is coming to a close at the end of this month with my retirement. This chapter began 25 years ago, as I was invited and accepted the invitation to explore becoming a deacon. With my “Yes,” I, along with Sandy by my side, began four years of study and training in the Diaconate Formation Program. We both learned a lot and I could always look to Sandy for support and encouragement along the way. And even back then, I also felt the support and encouragement from the community. With my ordination in May, 1999, I began serving you in new ways as a deacon. It gave me the opportunity to touch and be touched by so many people, as you brought your children to be baptized; as I assisted or officiated at weddings and was there to support and serve you in times of loss. I am also most appreciative of the love and generosity you have always shown toward the needs of others over the years in supporting programs through the Community Life Program—especially the annual Thanksgiving Food Drive and Giving Tree Program at Christmas for families here in the St. Hubert area and our Sharing Parish neighbors at St. Al’s in Chicago. And it has definitely been shown most recently with your response to the needs of others during these times of Covid-19 with our Drive Thru Food Drives for Church of the Holy Spirit and St. Al’s. And now, even though I am retiring and will not be seen up at the altar, you will still be seeing me in the pew with Sandy, which I will enjoy being able to do—coming to be served and to continue serving others through Encore and Marriage Ministry. We look forward to where God is calling us in this newest chapter of our lives. May God’s blessing always be with you. Deacon Dick Lawson
