We often see an image of St. Francis of Assisi giving God glory as Creator by holding up a small creature or raising his arms in praise. This blessing gives thanks for the companionship of our pets, asks God to keep them healthy, and that they be a source of pleasure for the Earth and our homes. Children and all households who care for God’s creatures are invited to bring your pet for the traditional blessing of animals. This will take place at both parishes. It is common to bring dogs and cats, but you can also bring your hamsters, birds, bunnies and the like. It is safer for your small pets, such as these, to be in their cage. Let all God’s creation be kept from harm, abuse or neglect as we celebrate the feast of St. Francis, who honored God with respect for all God has put on Earth.
