EXPERIENCING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE? WINGS Can Offer: WINGS emergency shelters provide a safe haven for victims, a place where violence cannot find them. Victims who are actively fleeing a violent situation can find refuge at the Safe Houses – with or without their children. The houses provide temporary shelter, safety planning, food and clothing. The family and child advocates who staff the Safe Houses can also help residents access critical services such as counseling, legal advocacy, and assistance securing orders of protection. WINGS Transitional and Permanent Housing programs help victims and their children continue to move forward with rebuilding their lives after escaping a violent situation. Program participants are offered assistance with housing costs, counseling and employment services, providing the tools needed to help individuals and families move toward self-sufficiency. Escaping the cycle of violence, however, requires more than just a safe place to live. WINGS has continued to expand so that they can address the specific needs of the individuals and families they serve. Many different kinds of support are needed to help them move away from violence and towards safety and self-sufficiency. Today, WINGS is able to connect clients with a wide range of services such as counseling, legal assistance, mentoring, life skills support and career services. Making the courageous decision to leave an abusive relationship is the first step in a difficult journey. WING’S goal as an agency is to provide all of the tools and supports needed to ensure that families have what they need to move towards safety, independence and self-sufficiency. Thanks to WINGS, there is a way out. No one is alone.
